The Correct Method

During the training, farmers are taught the proper spacing for applying manure. From the base of the avocado tree, a circular space of 60 centimeters by 60 centimeters (60 cm radius) should be left. This ensures that the manure does not burn the roots while allowing nutrients to be absorbed effectively.

Manure should be evenly spread around the circle and lightly covered with soil to protect it from being washed away by rain. This method helps the avocado tree grow stronger and produce better quality fruits.

At Golden Grove Avocados Farm, we believe that a good harvest begins with proper land preparation. Before the rainy season starts, farmers need to get their fields ready so that fruit trees like avocados, mangoes, and others can grow strong and healthy.

The first step is to clear the land by removing weeds, stones, and unnecessary bushes. After this, we dig holes that are wide and deep enough to support the roots of the young trees. Normally, each hole is about 60 cm wide and 60 cm deep, giving enough space for the roots to expand.

To enrich the soil, we use natural fertilizers from the livestock we keep on our farm. Manure from cows, goats, and chickens is mixed with the soil and placed at the bottom of each hole. This organic fertilizer improves soil fertility, provides nutrients, and helps the young fruit trees grow faster and stronger.

Finally, the farmer should wait for the first rains before planting. Once the rains begin, the seedlings are carefully planted, and the soil is pressed gently around the roots to avoid air gaps. This preparation ensures that fruit trees such as avocados and mangoes establish well and produce abundantly in the future.

Whether you are a smallholder farmer or planning a large orchard, this guide will walk you through essential steps to prepare your land the right way.

1. Site Selection   Where Nature Smiles

Choose a site with good sunlight exposure, moderate slopes for drainage, and deep, fertile soil. Avoid areas that get waterlogged or are prone to strong winds.

2. Soil Testing  Know  What  You’re Working With

Before planting, we conduct a soil test to measure pH, nutrients, and texture. Avocados prefer slightly acidic soils (pH 5.5–6.5).

3. Clearing the Land   Making Way for Life

Remove all bushes, stumps, weeds, and rocks. Clean land makes it easier for roots to grow freely.
